Job Description:


Purpose of the Job
: To manage and guide the amended BETE II project, fostering partnerships and ensuring the project’s activities are carried out on time in the designated areas of North Gondar zone (Dabat, Debark town, Debark zuria, Adiarkay, and Telemt woredas) and Gondar town (Kebero meda IDP camp) of Amhara region. The position entails adhering to UNICEF's BETE project standards to enhance access to integrated and inclusive education and child protection services for children affected by emergency crises, including IDPs, returnees, and host community members in the project sites (Woredas) in the region. Additionally, the role involves managing activity execution and compiling best practices for ongoing learning.


Major Responsibility


Program development and implementation:

  • Assess crisis areas for internally displaced persons and returnees to controbute to developing effective education project proposals.
  • Conduct initial studies (baseline) and periodic reviews and evaluations throughout the project’s duration.
  • Coordinate evaluations (baseline & end line) and analyze current data on the educational needs of the selected recipients.

Coordination, partnership and networking:

  • Coordinate with local authorities to align with government and regional education cluster guidelines.
  • Represent WVE in regional educational coordination assemblies with other agencies and the
  • government (cluster, task forces and other platforms)
  • Collaborate closely with the Child Protection team and other sectors in WVE and partners for effective intervention.
  • Regularly update the WVE Head Office technical team on progress.

Resource Management:

  • Manage operation budget of the project in the implementation sites (procurement, & cost for the materials)
  • Contribute to the selection of pre-qualification and bidding of local suppliers & contractors for logistics availability, & purchase
  • Track regularly the project budget versus actual expenditure with EiE & CP-GBV officers, field finance for timely correction (manage project budgets & expenditure)
  • Make project financial management in general.

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Contribute to ensure quality reports are submitted in a timely manner and in accordance with the donor and WVE requirements on target sites.
  • Monitor the impact of BETE project in the framework of EiE & CP response program & promote learning by documentation of best practices.
  • Commit to provide necessary information to the EiE & CP program team at NO, NECR & regional clusters.
  • Lead the documentation of project best practices & challenges for learning.

Required Professional Experience:

  • Experience in leading the project implementation specially in emergency program context preferably EiE and protection.
  • Minimum three years relevant field experience in emergency or post-emergency settings, IDP and returnees & refugee setting experience is preferable and five years in the field of education.
  • Technical experience in managing education program in both emergency and development, teaching methodology, need assessment, planning and facilitation skills is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Ethiopian education policy and education in emergency programming
  • Experience in life skills education, social emotional learning (SEL) and alternative basic education, accelerated learning program (ALP) & accelerated school readiness (ASR), psychosocial support, teachers training, community capacity enhancement, and related.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • BA/MA degree in educational planning and management, educational leadership, and other education fields such as educational pedagogy, curriculum and instruction and project management
