Project background
BRIDGE+ is a five-year programme (from November 2023 to December 2028) implemented by a consortium of partners composed of SNV Netherlands Development Organization (lead) and Wageningen University (WUR and Agriterra, with the financial support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN).
The overall objective of the BRIDGE+ programme is to contribute to a functioning dairy Value Chain that creates inclusive and sustainable benefits for all its participants, including wider society, with particular focus on smallholder farmers within the mixed farming system. To attain this objective, the project will operate at three levels: (1) smallholder farmers: increase benefits from dairy farming; (2) dairy value chain: improving functioning and food safety; and (3) at sector level: strengthening institutional structure.
The Project Assistant intern is part of the respective regional office and assigned at supporting Milkshed Advisors will assist in organizing training sessions, managing financial processes, and compiling project data, fostering effective stakeholder engagement to enhance the dairy value chain and contribute to the successful implementation of project activities.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP
Given the ten components of BRIDGE+, the Milkshed Advisors carry a substantial responsibility to ensure that all components are aligned with the project's objectives. To support this effort, the objectives of the intern positions are:
1. Career Development for Local Youth: The intern position will provide local youth with an opportunity to begin a career in the dairy sector. By working alongside the Milkshed Advisor, the intern will gain valuable experience across the dairy value chain and build a useful network for future involvement in the sector.
2. Succession Planning: The Milkshed Advisor role is considered an entry-level position within the BRIDGE+ project team. To encourage individual growth, well-performing advisors are often promoted to internal positions or encouraged to start their own commercial advisory businesses. As a result, there is frequent turnover at the milkshed level. The intern position offers an opportunity to develop a pipeline of potential future Milkshed Advisors.
3. Support for Strategic Implementation: Interns can assist Milkshed Advisors with administrative tasks and data collection, freeing up the advisors to focus on more strategic aspects of implementing the various project components.
