Background

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Head of Sub Office and Senior Project Associate (DRU-Operations); the successful candidate will perform the following functions. They will be accountable for the implementation,  coordination, and monitoring of data collection for the Data and Research Unit in the region. The candidate will provide guidance, training, and support to the enumerators, as well as provide logistical support and liaise with the DRU team in Addis Ababa to regularly update on data collections findings or any other related issues. In addition, the candidate will represent the DRU in region at relevant meetings, briefings, events and working groups, as well as ensure smooth collaboration with regional authorities.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities.
  2. Verify and monitor the quality of data collection and take corrective measures as required as well as ensure quality control of the data being collected.
  3. Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyse, and present information/data on specific project topics.
  4. In coordination and overall guidance of DRU team in Addis Ababa develop work plans and activity schedules for data collection, processing and analysis for all areas of agreed upon coverage for each round of the data collection.
  5. Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
  6. Facilitate regional endorsement and communication with government focal points to ensure smooth operations.
  7. Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation, and other forms of documentation.
  8. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  9. Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
  10. Assist in monitoring work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor.
  11. Gather timely information about displacement population mobility movement flows and any other source of data required.
  12. Provides guidance/training to new/junior staff.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications and Experience

Educational Qualification

  •  School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Information Technology, Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience. 
Experience

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Positioning System (GPS) tools.
  • Experience working at the community and individual level in rural and remote areas of Ethiopia.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in field level data collection, research, community-based response approaches etc.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and skills on data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Knowledge of Open Data Kit (ODK) and Kobo technology.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Experience in recognized institutions on data collection in Ethiopia is an advantage. NGO/INGO experience is a plus.
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming.
  • Knowledge of financial rules and regulations.
Languages

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Working knowledge of Amharic and other local languages is an advantage
