Role purpose:

To ensure maximum Tax compliance is adhered to for all key company processes and procedures. The role may influence the tax strategy to drive the optimization of company’s tax position, including minimizing tax liability, tax reporting and ensuring compliance with all statutory positions. In addition, will focus upon the management of a team of tax professionals who establish close working relationships with stakeholders across the business, advising on tax risks and opportunities and providing expert recommendations.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Ensure the review of tax exposure points on an ongoing basis to ensure the company is not exposed to penalties for non-compliance or misinterpretation of legislation.
  • Establish and uphold professional relationship with the Ministry of Revenue, ensuring open communication and productive working rapport.
  • Organize an annual tax compliance health check of all The Company taxes to be overseen by independent tax consultants.
  • Ensure that adequate preparations are made for the annual statutory audit & other tax audits.
  • With the relevant stakeholders, i.e. KRA and PWC proactively take measures to ensure that new legislation has a minimal impact on the Company and where possible on the Company trading partners through structured lobbying efforts.
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of Transfer Pricing policies, structuring and compliance at all times.
  • Take active role in resolving telecommunication industry tax matters.
  • Identify tax incentives highlighted in the tax legislation and ensure that the company takes advantage through efficient processes.
  • Tax returns – ensure that returns are prepared and submitted to KRA in accordance with the following timetable.
  • The Company VAT returns – 20th
  • Excise duty – 20th
  • Withholding tax – 20th
  • Installment tax – quarterly, 20th of the last month in the quarter
  • Secondee tax returns – 9th of every month
  • Tax planning and forecasting reports to be prepared quarterly and availed by 15th of the first month in the quarter. ·      
  • To liaise closely with the forecasting section to provide the best estimate tax figures for senior management and cashflow usage
  • Annual tax computation – ensure tax computation for the purposes of final audited accounts are prepared on time. Ensure that input from external tax consultants is kept at a minimal.
  • Prepare monthly/annual tax schedules for financial reporting and cashflow purposes.
  • In line with the company cost saving strategy, co-ordinate the Inter-departmental tax group savings and review areas that would result in savings for the company. ·          
  • Review contracts, products and promotions to ensure no tax exposure.
  • Filing of annual returns and managing Group entities tax affairs.
  • Manage the objective setting & PDR Review Processes.
  • Manage and grow Talent within the section
  • Facilitate staff satisfaction survey within the section.
  • Motivate, discipline and recommend reward of staff.
  • Use judgment in data analysis to develop and design solutions for complex tax (indirect and direct) processes including automation of these processes.
  • Design strategies to structure taxation process to be followed.
  • Filing of annual returns and managing Group entities tax affairs.

Education & Experience:

    • A BCom Degree/ or any appropriate business-related degree
    • CPA (K) qualified
    • 8 years’ experience with 4 years’ post qualification experience in finance with specialization in Taxation.
    • Experience in Tax authority audits and internal and external Financial Audits.
    • Experience in staff supervision ensuring quality of work produced
