Role purpose:



  • To ensure tax compliance is adhered to by complying with tax controls, procedures and processes that are in place, in addition to identifying and supporting areas of tax planning to enhance operation efficiencies within the business.


To spearhead tax reporting both locally and group and provide leadership towards adequate preparations for annual statutory audit & other tax audits as required


Key accountabilities and decision ownership:



  • Proactively advise and support the wider business in providing and coordinating tax advice on the implications of key transactions, set up & business operational processes and ad hoc projects, including related party transactions.

  • Identify and ensure that legislative provisions and subsequent changes are identified, reviewed, documented, and adopted in a timely manner, including implementation of system changes where necessary.

  • Manage relationships with the Ministry of Revenue and external tax service providers for tax-related queries and changes in tax legislation specific to the telecommunication & financial services industry.

  • Research solutions and risk mitigation for any emerging tax issues across the business and track these solutions to implementation.

  • Prepare the company’s periodic (monthly and annual) accounting (income and deferred tax) provisions and related financial statement disclosures, including tax planning and forecasting reports.

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors on in-country corporation tax computations and returns and ensure timely submissions.

  • Ensure monthly tax returns (income tax and pension, VAT, Reverse VAT excise duty and withholding tax) are prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Revenue, Large Taxpayers office within prescribed timelines, including payment of the corresponding tax liabilities.

  • Oversight of all employees Income Tax (PAYE) for payroll purposes, reconciliations and respective certifications.

  • On an ongoing basis, review the overall management of tax compliance processes within the company operations (Tax health check).

  • Work with, and where required provide training to, the Finance teams to ensure a mitigation of tax exposures within the controls environment.

  • To oversee a robust document management system necessary for tax compliance and statutory purposes within the established framework across all tax information sources and touch points.



  • Develop tax publications including tax alerts/bulletins and organize seminars/webinars to conduct internal and external tax training for partners in the ecosystem.



  • Champion the engagement within a related party and ensure effective and robust transfer pricing policy and compliance with the local and OECD pronouncements.

  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship and keeping up to date with business strategic mission and priorities and developments, act as a trusted business advisor to challenge and support the business units in improving overall tax management and compliance.

    Education & Experience:


    ·       A bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or another relevant subject area.


    ·       Successfully completed a professional qualification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent accounting/tax designation) Applicants with tax qualifications will have an added advantage


    ·       6-8 years’ experience in progressive tax finance leadership role, including tax reporting, compliance and finance operations/accounting


    ·       Experience within a tax function in a multinational (preferred) or a tax advisory firm and Experience in managing comprehensive tax audits


    ·       In depth experience and technical knowledge of tax accounting and disclosures for accounting purposes, including deferred tax, prior year adjustments and transfer pricing.


    ·       Wide experience in taxation within Ethiopia and at Global level with broad understanding of key domestic and international tax issues


    ·       Experience in proactive management of tax matters, keeping up to date with changes in the regulatory environment and dealing with Tax Authorities will be an added advantage.


    ·       Proven experience managing and influencing effectively in a matrix organized, high transaction volume organization


    ·       A strong interest and understanding of Finance digitization, agile operations, and innovation.


    ·       Able to apply good judgment, consult appropriately and manage risks, resilient and to work to deadlines with sound judgement regarding acceptable levels of tax risk


    ·       Excellent analytical skills and commercial expertise and influencing at both internal and external levels and Application of tax technical knowledge to commercial agenda.


    ·       must demonstrate the ability to communicate with impact, Effortless storytelling, communication, and information synthesis abilities, with strong data visualization capabilities.


    ·       The role requires a blend of strategic vision, proven leadership, and direct management skills across multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
